into me
I search for some
hint of emotion, even
a flicker of gall.
yet I find nothing…
nothing
there at all.
some say “it is right
there, you just haven’t begun
to see. you keep trying
to hide hurt,
something in your past.
Temporary, it won’t
last.”
but I keep looking
it must be
there
deep down, really deep
into me.
the mirror reflects
I look away, then back again
search for some
emotion, anything I can
recall
yet I find nothing…
nothing
there at all.
don’t give up
have hope
must
try.
relax, I say
take a
long
engrossing
breath
I cry.
About Randye
Randye Bullock is a Detroit native with deep family ties to the city’s history and a trailblazer in public relations. As the first African American to work in PR at a major Michigan hospital, she broke barriers, leading media relations for U.S. Congressman John Conyers, Jr. and managing campaigns for Chrysler Corporation. A co-founder of the National Black Public Relations Society, Bullock mentored rising Black journalists and PR professionals throughout her award-winning career. She developed impactful programs like “Where’s the Money,” a scholarship guide for African American students, and “Motion Through Art,” a national art competition featuring African American family lifestyles. Now retired, she enjoys painting, inspiring her family, and embracing her faith. She lives in Metro Detroit with her husband and one pet boxer.
